DIYA Team was invited by Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies (GNIMS), Matunga as a jury member for ‘Samvedna’ – Social Internship along with. The team met respected Dr. D. Y. Patil, Director GNIMS and briefed him about the work done by GNIMS and DIYA Mumbai. Be it cleanliness drives, relief work for Uttarakhand & Chennai, Tulsi distribution, International women’s day celebration, old age home visits, de-addiction rallies, annual stress management workshops. GNIMS Business School has worked in collaboration with DIYA Mumbai since 2013. Literature by Pandit Shri Ram Sharma Acharya and DIYA Mumbai brochure along with a memento was handed over to Dr. D.Y.Patil, Director GNIMS.
The parameters for evaluation were social impact, student attitude and several others. The students were expected to spend 30 hours of community development work as per a cause close to their heart. Next, they had to approach NGOS working in this direction and contribute to nation-building. The chosen causes were animal welfare, environment, child welfare, women empowerment, education, senior citizens, hospital management, cloth distribution, de-addiction. One group went on creating awareness about ill effects of addiction and distributed literature on addiction by Pandit Shri Ram Sharma Acharya. Few went to old age homes, orphanages, planting saplings, teaching kids, women, assisting hospital administration.
DIYA Team went on asking thought provoking questions relevant to the cause with a managerial perspective. This forced them to think what next post project work. Questions like what is next action plan post this project made students realize they have a larger responsibility on their shoulders. PGDM 2016-18 Best project Award – Social Internship was awarded and a video was shown of the last year Samvedna glimpses.
DIYA Mumbai appreciated the efforts of the institute in instilling values and responsibility towards society through such Internship which is a mandatory requirement of PGDM course at GNIMS carrying 3 credits. The videos, presentation depicted the immense creativity, passion of PGDM students on campus. The takeaways were many for GNIMS and DIYA Mumbai and the beautiful story shared by DIYA Mumbai of Sudha Murthy which made young minds realize the importance of their duties towards mankind.
